One of our Scandinavian brand with their finger firmly on the sustainability button is Woden. Just in case you haven’t discovered them yet, Woden (WOrk of DENmark) is a premium Danish footwear brand.
Baruch was the first UK store to stock the brand in 2016 and the brand has grown from strength to strength with its cool blend of form and function.
WODEN are inspired by nature with the mindset to REDUCE. REUSE. RECYCLE.
They focus on the use of the following natural fabrics.
Cork is used inside the footwear to improve climate control and comfort. Cork production is generally considered sustainable because the cork tree is not cut down to obtain cork; only the bark is stripped to harvest the cork.
Woden have been testing the durability when using recycled rubber for the outsoles for a long period and have managed to find a formula, using approximately 10% recycled rubber in combination with natural gum rubber and synthetic rubber.
Woden use 100% real fish leather. The leather is a waste product coming from the Northern Sea fish industry which has an eco-friendly production where they use water from hot springs to tan the skin. They also use hydroelectricity generated by hydropower of falling water.
